Facial Resurfacing Q & A

What is facial resurfacing?

Facial resurfacing is a laser cosmetic treatment that reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles and makes your skin look younger. The team at Nature Coast Healthcare Center uses the CO2RE laser to improve the look of your skin.

What is CO2RE?

CO2RE is an advanced laser that uses a special light beam, referred to as fractionated CO2, that sends rapid pulses of light to the top layer of your skin to remove it.

The CO2RE not only reduces lines and wrinkles, but also improves:

  • Sun damage and age spots
  • Acne scars
  • Discoloration

The medical professionals at Nature Coast Healthcare Center can determine if you’re a good candidate for the CO2RE treatment after a consultation and examination of your skin.

How does CO2RE work?

The specialized laser on CO2RE removes the top layer of your skin and stimulates the production of collagen, which is a protein that supports skin structure and gives you a more youthful appearance.

As you get older, your body produces less collagen, which is why gravity starts to take over. The slight injury from the laser causes the top layer of your skin to kick up its production of collagen to promote healing and create new skin to improve your look.

What is CO2RE treatment like?

The laser treatment gently heats your skin, but you may feel some discomfort during the process. To ease any pain, the team at Nature Coast Healthcare Center applies a topical anesthetic over the treatment area before the procedure.

After your treatment, you may feel as though you sat outside in the sun too long and got a sunburn. Over the next week to 10 days, the top layer of your skin starts to peel off as the new skin underneath grows.

During this healing process, you should protect your skin with sunblock. The doctor may also prescribe an antibiotic to reduce your risk of a skin infection.

How long does it take to see results?

It only takes one treatment to get results. You may notice a difference in the appearance of your skin immediately after treatment, but your skin continues to improve for up to a year.

To keep your youthful look after treatment, use sunblock daily and wear sun-protective clothing such as hats and sunglasses.
